AI for manufacturing in India
From defect detection on the line to purchase orders in the inbox, we put AI to work where Indian factories lose time and quality, without replacing your ERP.
Where Indian manufacturers lose time and money
Most SME factories in India run on skilled people, a Tally or SAP Business One system and a lot of WhatsApp. The costly problems are rarely exotic. Defects are caught at final inspection or by the customer, not at the machine. Purchase orders, delivery challans and inspection reports arrive as PDFs and photos and are retyped by hand. Production data lives in registers and spreadsheets, so the owner learns about yesterday's rejection rate on Thursday.
These are the problems AI handles well, because they involve images, documents and repeated decisions. The sections below show how each of our services applies on a shop floor.
Visual quality inspection on the line
A camera and a trained model can check every part, every shift, against the same standard, and log an image for each decision. See our computer vision service for how we build it.
- Surface defects: scratches, dents, burrs, paint and coating faults on castings, plastics and sheet metal.
- Assembly checks: missing fasteners, wrong labels, reversed parts, absent gaskets.
- Counting and packing: parts in a tray, cartons on a pallet, bags on a conveyor.
- Safety: helmets, vests and restricted zones monitored from existing CCTV.
Purchase orders, challans and inspection reports
Customers and suppliers send documents in every layout. Document AI reads them, checks them against your item master and posts clean data. See our document ai and ocr service for how we build it.
- Customer POs from email or WhatsApp turned into sales orders.
- Supplier invoices matched against POs and goods receipt notes, with GSTIN and total checks.
- Mill test certificates and inspection reports captured into batch records.
- Handwritten production and shift logs digitised.
Shop-floor and back-office automation
Once data is captured, the follow-up steps can run themselves. See our business process automation service for how we build it.
- Automatic alerts to a supervisor when rejection crosses a threshold.
- Approval flows for purchase requisitions and maintenance requests.
- Daily production summaries sent to the owner on WhatsApp.
- Payment reminders and dispatch updates to customers.
Dashboards and light MES
Where data sits in registers, we build simple apps for operators and dashboards for management: output, rejection by shift, downtime reasons and OEE inputs, with data in BigQuery. See our custom software and bi dashboards service for how we build it.
- Tablet-based production entry that works offline.
- Live rejection and downtime dashboards by line and shift.
What makes factory AI succeed or fail
Three things decide the outcome: lighting and camera placement, a clear written defect standard, and a plan for the parts the model is unsure about. Most failed pilots skip one of these. We spend the first sessions on your line, agreeing what counts as a defect, photographing good and bad parts, and deciding who reviews the doubtful ones.
Integration matters as much as accuracy. A model that flags a defect but cannot trigger a reject gate or write to your ERP creates extra work. We design the output first, whether that is a light, a PLC signal, a row in a sheet or a dashboard, and then train the model to feed it. If you want the underlying terms explained, see the glossary entry on computer vision.

Where to start
Pick one line or one document flow, not the whole plant. The best first project has a visible, repeated problem, a person who owns it and a way to measure the result, such as rejection percentage or hours spent on data entry.
For example, if one inspection station checks 2,000 parts a shift, a pilot on that single station tells you the detection rate and false alarm rate on real parts before any larger spend. Our article on how computer vision cuts defects explains how to calculate the saving.
Our usual path is the same in every industry: a short discovery session, a prototype on a sample of your own data, production on Google Cloud, then improvement under an annual maintenance contract. See pricing for how that is structured, or talk to us about your workflow.
Frequently asked questions
How can AI improve quality control in a factory?
A camera and a trained model inspect every part against the same defect standard and store an image for each decision. Uncertain parts go to a person for review, so inspectors spend time on judgement calls rather than every good part.
Can AI inspection work with my existing cameras?
Sometimes. Counting, safety and monitoring often work with existing CCTV. Fine surface inspection usually needs a dedicated camera and controlled lighting, which we assess during discovery.
Is AI affordable for a small manufacturing unit in India?
Starting small keeps it affordable. We prototype one station or one document flow first, and you see results before committing to a full rollout. See our pricing page for how engagements are structured.
Can you read purchase orders and challans automatically?
Yes. Document AI extracts fields from PDFs, scans and phone photos, validates them against your item master and pushes them to Tally, SAP Business One, Zoho or a custom ERP.
Do we have to replace our ERP or Tally?
No. We connect to what you already run through APIs or scheduled exports. New software is only suggested when an existing tool cannot be connected.
Does the inspection system need internet on the shop floor?
No. Models run on an edge device beside the line, so decisions happen locally. Internet is only used to sync results to dashboards.
